Did You Know?

Over the course of this blogging assignmnet as I come across thing about HIV awareness I will be posting it here in my Did You know Column..

1) Did You Know that every one in five gay men are HIV postive and don't know it. Now they are carriers of this disease. This issue is not only taking place in the United States but the statistics as of 09/04/2009 show that in Austrailia one in five gay men are HIV positive. This is quite disturbing because more and more people are going around unaware that they have HIV.
Below is the Austrailian article that was published on September 4th.

Blog # 2..

This week in class I thought time was going by rather fast. I was reading this awesome book entitled "The Naked Truth", for our assignment 3. I was getting a deeper insight into how it is to be young and living with HIV. I can't imagine how it would be but the main character in this book has so much courage. I also got a chance to work on my module for this week coming. Even though the class is tough to work through on top of every other class im taking I still find myself reading up on HIV and different topics where HIV plays a big rule. I've noticed that this class is inspiring me on my quest to becoming a doctor.

I also researched an organization having to do with HIV/AIDS. I choose the Global Aids Alliance. This organization's goals are to protect the children of the world, provide a free basic education to children living with the disease, treat the people, and fight for a cure. They mostly help the children in Africa, but they are a worldwide organization. I found that this orgaization is trying to promote awareness and get people tested. They also try to get women who are infected with AIDS to enroll in programs before they give birth. This organization is awesome and really there
to help patients.

Blog # 1-Awareness is a powerful thing!!

First let me say that I'm glad to be in this class. I hope to learn a lot from this class, and hopefully educate other people about this disease. I have realized from the first part of this class that it is very demanding, but along with all the other classes that I'm taking I think I'm ready for this challenge. I have never written a blog so I have to say that I am very new to this whole thing. I think it will work out just time.
Blog #1 was to discuss a topic having to do with HIV. I was always aware that there were many people who have HIV/AIDS and didn't even know it. Almost 233,000 people are living in the U.S. unaware that they had HIV. That is a very scary thing especially when 9% of that shocking number are young people anywhere from 13-24. I think that people should be more aware of what they are doing and use the right tools to make sure that they are protecting themselves as well as other. This number should be enough for eveyone to get tested. The more people that are aware, a lesser amount of people will be infected (WEBMD, 2009).
This is just the beginning of this class and I feel like I should be making people more and more aware of this disease. I guess I'm just passionate about what I study. Hopefully I am able to make more people aware as I go more and more into my career as a doctor.
